Unibet is chastised by the Danish authority for AML violations.

The DGA has ordered Unibet 'Denmark' Limited, which is in charge of Kindred's Danish operations, to improve its risk assessment.

During an investigation of the company's AML responsibilities, the regulator discovered a "number of breaches."

Kindred responded to Gambling Insider with the following statement: "As previously communicated, Unibet 'Denmark' Limited, which operates Kindred Group's Danish business, has been reprimanded by the Danish Gambling Authority for past failings related to AML."

"Since then, Unibet has, in collaboration with the Danish Gambling Authority, updated its AML framework accordingly and will provide the DGA with an updated risk assessment."

Unibet was chastised by the DGA for failing to follow its rules on business operations, know your customer (KYC) measures, politically exposed people, and so on, as well as its regulations on the need to investigate and report.

It said that until January 25 of this year, Unibet lacked "sufficient written business procedures for ongoing monitoring of existing customer relations."

Unibet also lacked adequate business procedures for collecting and reviewing documents in regard to suspected money laundering, as well as limiting existing risks through particular payment methods, according to the DGA.

Unibet was also chastised for poor business practises "for managing politically exposed persons, their family members, and close associates," as well as for failing to implement necessary KYC steps for five of the 20 high-roller clients evaluated during a spot inspection.

According to the DGA, Unibet also permitted a teenage player to deposit more than DKK 1 million ($152,708) without proper understanding of the source of his cash.

The regulator has given the corporation two months to revise its risk assessment, but it has stated that its reprimands do not imply a need to act because the violations no longer exist.

"Kindred Group have the ambition to demonstrate the highest quality and standards in the industry and we are pleased to see that the DGA have now acknowledged that the breaches no longer exist," said a spokesperson for Kindred Group.

"Throughout the process, Kinderd has communicated with the DGA in an open, transparent, and productive manner." We will continue to collaborate and do all possible to tighten our control methods while keeping our aspirations of providing excellent consumer safety and AML security."
